THE ARCTIC REFUGE

by Arthur Smid

“The love of all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man.”
–Charles Darwin

In god trusted shells we trade
Open pearls, the arc transcends
Carbon footprints until the end
Civilization, the world entrusts

As words break from your heart
You are given what a hermit keeps.
Adventure keeps a hermit,
Resting on the mountain,
A lookout from the peaks,
Watching stags and rabbits.

I hear the call.

In a cry,
In the sky,
The pole star
Bears the raven.
